This is the privacy policy for FlutterFall Frenzy, the Android game published by Blencathra Studios:

It explains what the app collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. It covers the whole app: the online leaderboard service at leaderboards.rentonl.com, advertising, purchases, and the data that never leaves your device.
1. What we collect, and when
a) Leaderboard submissions — only when you choose to submit
Nothing is sent to our leaderboard until you type a name on the game-over screen and tap Submit Score. Playing the game without submitting sends us nothing. When you do submit, we receive:
| Data | Example / notes |
|---|---|
| Player display name | Whatever you type — a pseudonym is fine and encouraged |
| Score | Final run score |
| Distance travelled | Run statistic |
| Player level reached | Run statistic |
| Depth (difficulty) reached | Run statistic |
| Time played | Duration of that run, in milliseconds |
| Daily challenge seed | Only for Daily Challenge runs, to group that day's entries |
| App version | e.g. "1.0.0 build 7" — for debugging and abuse investigation |
| Region | Derived from your device language setting (e.g. "CA"), not from geolocation |
| Platform | e.g. "Android" |
| Device model | e.g. "Pixel 7" |
| Screen resolution | e.g. "1080x2400" |
| Device language | e.g. "en_CA" |
Your IP address is processed transiently to enforce rate limits and detect abuse. It is not stored alongside your score.
We use this to operate and display the public leaderboards, keep the service secure, detect cheating and impossible scores, and produce aggregate, anonymised statistics about how the game is played.
b) Advertising (Google AdMob)
FlutterFall Frenzy shows occasional full-screen ads between runs, served by Google AdMob. The AdMob software inside the app — not our own code — may collect and send to Google and its advertising partners:
- your device's advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID),
- your IP address,
- device and app information, and
- ad interaction events (impressions, clicks) used for delivery, frequency
capping, measurement, and fraud prevention.
Whether you see personalised or non-personalised ads depends on your consent choice (see §3). We do not receive your advertising identifier, and we never send your leaderboard data to advertisers — these are separate systems.
How Google uses data from apps that use its services is described at <https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites>.
Players who purchase the premium unlock see no ads at all.
c) Purchases (Google Play Billing)
The optional premium unlock is processed by Google Play Billing. Google handles the payment and is the seller of record. We receive only whether the purchase is owned or pending — we never see your card number, billing address, or Google account details. The app re-checks purchase status with Google at launch so your purchase is restored automatically if you reinstall.
d) Data stored only on your device
The following stays on your device and is never transmitted to us:
- acorn balance, unlocks, and permanent upgrades,
- audio/visual settings, chosen language, and developer toggles,
- the display name you last used, so you don't have to retype it,
- your local high-score list,
- your per-run history (score, distance, depth, duration, mode) used for
in-game statistics.
Deleting the app, or using Options → Delete Saved Progress, erases all of it. That does not remove scores already submitted to the online leaderboard — see §6.
e) What we do not do
- No analytics or tracking SDKs (no Firebase Analytics, no attribution SDKs).
- No accounts, sign-in, email addresses, phone numbers, or contacts.
- No location data, camera, microphone, photos, or files.
- No cookies during normal use of the game or the leaderboard service.
- We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for
cross-context behavioural advertising beyond the ad serving described in §1b.
2. Legal bases (EEA, UK, Switzerland)
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Publishing a score you chose to submit | Performance of a contract / your request (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Rate limiting, anti-cheat, service security | Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Personalised advertising and storing/reading ad identifiers on your device | Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a); ePrivacy Directive) |
| Non-personalised advertising involving device storage/access | Your consent (ePrivacy Directive) |
| Processing a purchase | Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
3. Advertising consent and how to change your mind
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the app asks for your advertising consent using Google's User Messaging Platform, a Google-certified consent management platform. You can consent, refuse, or manage individual purposes and partners. Refusing does not stop you playing — you will see non-personalised ads instead.
You can change your choice at any time:
- in the game, via Options → Privacy Settings (shown where an advertising
consent choice applies); and
- at the OS level, via Android Settings → Privacy → Ads, where you can
reset or delete your advertising ID.
Buying the premium unlock removes ads entirely.
4. Who we share data with
- Google — as advertising provider (AdMob) and payment processor (Google
Play Billing), as described above.
- Our hosting provider — the infrastructure that runs the leaderboard
service processes submissions on our behalf.
- Where legally required — if we must comply with a valid legal request.
That is the complete list. We do not sell data or share it with data brokers.
5. Public visibility of leaderboard entries
Leaderboards are public by design. If you submit a score, the display name you chose and that run's summary (score, time, level, depth, date) can be seen by anyone who views the leaderboards in the game. Please use a name you're comfortable showing publicly, and don't put personal information in it.
Leaderboard entries are pseudonymous: there is no account behind a name, and we cannot tell who a name belongs to unless you tell us.
6. Retention
- Submitted scores are kept until removed by an administrator or at your
request, so that historical leaderboards remain meaningful.
- IP addresses are processed transiently for rate limiting and are not
retained with score records.
- On-device data stays until you delete it (Options → Delete Saved
Progress) or uninstall the app, except where the game caps its own storage: the local high-score list keeps your best 50 normal runs, local daily-challenge scores keep the best 10 per day and drop days older than 60, and per-run history keeps the most recent 500 runs. These limits are applied the next time the game saves a score or finishes a run.
- Ad and purchase data held by Google is governed by Google's own
retention policies.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to withdraw consent, and to data portability. Residents of California and other US states with privacy laws may have rights to know, delete, and opt out of sale/sharing — note that we do not sell or share data in that sense.
To exercise any of these, contact blencathra.studios@gmail.com. For a score removal or correction, include the display name, the approximate date of the run, and the score, so we can identify the right entry — since entries are pseudonymous, that detail is how we locate them.
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. International transfers
Our hosting provider and Google may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
9. Children
FlutterFall Frenzy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has submitted personal information (for example, a real name on the leaderboard), contact us at blencathra.studios@gmail.com and we will remove it.
10. Security
The leaderboard service is served over HTTPS and submission credentials are hashed. Save data on your device is obfuscated to deter casual tampering. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security — but we minimise risk by collecting as little as possible: no accounts, no email addresses, and pseudonymous entries.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially — for example if we add a new data recipient — we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, note the change in the app. The current version always lives at the URL linked from the app's store listing and its advertising consent message.
